About Us

The Society for Women in Mathematics (SWiM) is an organization at the Colorado School of Mines and a chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM). It focuses on the concerns, interests, and opportunities for women in mathematics and statistics by promoting the understanding of the contributions of women in the mathematical sciences as well as promoting an increased knowledge and interest in mathematics and its applications. Formed in 2013 by three faculty members in the Applied Mathematics and Statistics department, the organization has grown to more than thirty members consisting of undergraduate, graduate, and faculty members at Mines. SWiM members share food and conversation, listen to a faculty member or alumna tell her mathematical story, and hold a discussion over the presentation or other relevant topic.
